This hearty and comforting casserole is a classic British dish that's perfect for any chilly evening. It's made with succulent sausages and tender potatoes, all baked together in a deliciously rich gravy. Here's how to make it:

Ingredients

  • 8 British sausages
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe casserole dish, toss the potatoes, onions, garlic, and olive oil together. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Arrange the sausages on top of the vegetables.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter and whisk in the flour to make a roux. Cook the roux for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef stock to make a smooth gravy. Add the Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Pour the gravy over the sausages and potatoes in the casserole dish.
  7. Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the sausages are cooked through.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
