Gordon's Air Fryer Turkey

This recipe is a twist on the classic roast turkey, using an air fryer to achieve a crispy skin and tender meat. It’s a perfect dish for a family gathering or a holiday feast. Get ready for some mouthwatering flavors!

Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (approximately 12 pounds)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage leaves
  • 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the turkey by removing the giblets and neck from the cavity. Rinse the turkey inside and out, then pat it dry with paper towels. Season the turkey generously with salt and pepper, both inside and out.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, thyme, rosemary, and sage. Rub this herb butter mixture all over the turkey, making sure to get it under the skin as well.
  4. Stuff the cavity of the turkey with lemon rounds and onion slices. This will infuse the turkey with a wonderful aroma while it cooks.
  5. Place the turkey in the air fryer basket, breast side down. Cook for 30 minutes at 400°F (200°C) to give the skin a nice brown color.
  6. After 30 minutes, carefully flip the turkey breast side up using tongs or oven mitts. Reduce the air fryer temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue cooking for another 2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the turkey reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Every 30 minutes, baste the turkey with the chicken broth to keep it moist and flavorful. This will also help to develop a beautiful golden brown color.
  8. Once the turkey is fully cooked, carefully remove it from the air fryer and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute and result in a tender and juicy turkey.
  9. Carve the turkey into slices and serve it with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and cranberry sauce.
