What Started it all:
Peanuts, Turnip, canned fish (tuna, sardines), grill

A fusion of Indian and Mediterranean flavors, this recipe combines the richness of peanuts, the crunch of turnip, and the smokiness of grilled tuna, all in a delicious and easy-to-make dish.

  • 1 can of tuna (drained and flaked)
  • 1 can of sardines (drained and chopped)
  • 2 medium turnips, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup of peanuts
  • 1/4 cup of peanut oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

  1. Prepare the peanut chutney: In a blender or food processor, grind the peanuts, peanut oil, garlic, garam masala, cumin powder, and salt until smooth. Add the lemon juice and blend until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Marinate the tuna and sardines: In a bowl, mix together the flaked tuna, chopped sardines, garam masala, cumin powder, and salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Grill the tuna and sardines: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the tuna and sardines from the marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  4. Grill the turnips: Brush the turnip cubes with peanut oil and season with salt. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side, or until tender and slightly charred.
  5. Assemble the dish: Cut the grilled tuna and sardines into bite-sized pieces. Serve with the grilled turnips and a dollop of peanut chutney on the side. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
