- Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves for about 2-3 minutes until they are pliable. Remove the leaves and let them cool.
- Make the Filling: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until softened, about 3-4 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the sautéed onion and garlic with the chopped ham, cooked rice, thyme, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix well.
- Stuff the Rolls: Lay one cabbage leaf flat on a clean surface. Place about 1/4 cup of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll it up tightly. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the top and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
