Honey Flan Recipe
What Started it all:
Honey Flan
Honey flan is a delightful dessert that combines the creaminess of traditional flan with the rich sweetness of honey. This simple yet elegant treat is perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a sweet end to your meal. This recipe serves four people.
Ingredients
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Caramel: In a small saucepan, combine the honey and water over medium heat. Stir until the honey dissolves and the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Allow it to simmer until it thickens slightly (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat.
- Coat the Molds: Pour the caramel mixture into four ramekins or individual flan molds, swirling to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden slightly.
- Blend the Flan Mixture: In a blender, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the Mixture: Carefully pour the flan mixture over the caramel-coated ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.
- Bake in a Water Bath: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the filled ramekins in a baking dish and add hot water to the dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins. Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert onto a plate, and enjoy!
Honey flan is a wonderful dessert that is both rich and satisfying. Its unique blend of honey adds a lovely twist to the classic flan, making it a memorable treat for any occasion. Enjoy your homemade honey flan!
