Korean-Style Braised Short Ribs

What Started it all:
Short ribs, Tomato, dried herbs (oregano, thyme, basil), frying pan


  • 2 lbs short ribs
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • 1 frying pan


  1. Preheat the frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Season the short ribs with salt and pepper.
  3. Add a drizzle of olive oil to the pan.
  4. Sear the short ribs in the pan until they are browned on all sides.
  5. Remove the short ribs from the pan and set them aside.
  6. In the same pan, add the chopped tomato and cook until it starts to break down.
  7. Return the short ribs to the pan.
  8. Sprinkle the dried oregano, thyme, and basil over the short ribs.
  9. Add enough water to the pan to cover the short ribs.
  10. Cover the pan and let the short ribs braise over low heat for 2-3 hours, until they are tender.
  11. Check the seasoning and adjust with salt and pepper if needed.
  12. Serve the Korean-style braised short ribs with your favorite side dishes.
