What Started it all:
rice
Cooking rice might seem simple, but achieving that perfectly fluffy texture is an art. This recipe will guide you to cook a single serving of rice that’s not only delicious but also a great base for countless meals.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of uncooked rice (white or brown)
- 1 cup of water
- A pinch of salt (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of butter or oil (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the rice under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch for fluffier rice.
- In a small saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt (if using).
- Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a lid.
- Let it simmer for about 18 minutes for white rice or 40-45 minutes for brown rice, without lifting the lid.
- After the cooking time, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in butter or oil if desired.
Now you have a perfect serving of fluffy rice ready to complement any dish! Enjoy it as a side, or use it as a base for stir-fries, curries, or grain bowls. Happy cooking!
