This roasted turkey recipe is perfect for a family dinner or special occasion. Follow the steps below to impress your guests.
Ingredients
- 1 whole turkey (about 12 pounds)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup white wine
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- Season the turkey with salt and pepper, inside and out.
- In a small bowl, mix together the butter, garlic, thyme, rosemary, and sage until well combined.
- Use your hands to carefully separate the skin from the turkey breast, thighs, and legs.
- Spread the butter mixture under the skin, covering as much surface area as possible.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and add the chicken broth and white wine to the pan.
- Cover the turkey with aluminum foil and roast for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165 degrees F (75 degrees C).
- Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow the skin to brown.
- Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
