Savory Tomato Patty Sandwiches

  A delightful twist on a classic sandwich, these savory tomato patty sandwiches are perfect for any meal. The combination of fresh tomatoes, onions, and a homemade yeast-based bread will make this a family favorite. This recipe is adjusted to serve 4 people.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
 - 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
 - 1 cup milk (warm)
 - 1/2 tsp salt
 - 1 tbsp sugar
 - 4 tomato slices (thick-cut)
 - 1 onion (sliced into rings)
 - 1 egg (beaten)
 - 1/2 cup flour
 - 1/2 tsp black pepper
 - 2 tbsp oil (for frying)
 
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
 - Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
 - Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
 - Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
 - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
 - Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
 - Shape each piece into a round bun and place them on a greased baking sheet.
 - Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for another 15-20 minutes.
 - Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let the buns cool on a wire rack.
 - In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, and black pepper.
 - Dip each tomato slice into the beaten egg, then coat with the flour mixture.
 - Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tomato slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
 - Slice the buns in half.
 - Place a fried tomato patty on the bottom half of each bun.
 - Top with a few onion rings.
 - Cover with the top half of the bun.
