  • 1 lb cod fillets, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup okra, sliced
  • 1/2 cup yeast (active dry or instant)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)


  1. In the crockpot, combine cod, okra, yeast, onion, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
  3. About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the diced tomatoes.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with chopped cilantro if desired.
